Funeral Director
Experience the great outdoors and the Great State of Alaska! We are currently seeking an experienced, well rounded, team oriented, and motivated individual to join our Legacy Team. Legacy Funeral Homes is family owned and operated and has been an important part of the great state of Alaska for over 2 decades. We serve Alaska state-wide, with our 12 funeral homes and 2 cemeteries, and we're still growing! We need a fully licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer to help serve our families with the utmost dignity and respect. The ideal candidate will be involved with all aspects of funeral service and maintain a high level of commitment to the families we serve. Compensation and benefits are negotiable, depending on experience.
This position has the following responsibilities:
Performs on-call responsibilities including: taking first calls, talking with families, answering questions, providing initial details, and conducting transfers.
Supervises and cares for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks such as: verifying identification; obtaining authorization for embalming; embalming; dressing, styling hair and/or applying cosmetics; preparing cremated remains.
Arranges and conducts funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized and caring manner consistent with company policies and procedures.
Negotiates and enters funeral contracts.
Handles contracts, legal documents, and collection of payment in accordance with company policies.
Arranges for the interment or cremation of human remains.
Confirms authorization to proceed with the service arrangements.
Ensures adherence to all applicable professional, municipal, provincial/state and federal licensing authority, regulations and rules.
Coordinate and manage with other entities, including but not limited to cemeteries, crematories, airlines or other funeral homes.
Job requirements:
Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a dual degree training program at an accredited mortuary college or technical school specializing in funeral and mortuary science as required by state/province law and as prescribed by each state board.
Experience
Embalmer or Funeral Director (Apprentice) as required by state/provincial law.
2 years directly related experience preferred.
Certification/Licenses
Must meet all licensing requirements in applicable state/province as required by law and as prescribed by each state board.
Current state/province issued driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic knowledge of religious and fraternal organizations customs.
Knowledge of computers and some software.
Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to empathize and provide comfort to grieving families
High level of compassion and integrity.
Good communication and organizational skills.
Problem solving skills.
Ability to multitask and set priorities.
Detail oriented, self-starter with a good attitude.
Ability to meet physical demands of lifting, pushing and pulling approximately 150 pounds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $58,000.00 per year
