Job Details

Funeral Director / Intern

Who we are:

Hartquist Funeral Home is seeking a licensed funeral director or intern to join our team of four full-time funeral directors and two part-time funeral directors. We are located in southwest Minnesota and serve approximately 240 families each year.

Our funeral home is dedicated to serving families with dignity, integrity, and transparency. Our mission is to educate families of their options for ceremony, facilitate a meaningful ceremony of their loved one, and provide a platform for the family and community to move forward in a healthy grief journey.

We are committed to our employees and wish for each of them to be successful throughout life both professionally and personally.

Professionally, we operate on a team-based philosophy and positive workplace environment, with emphasis on communication. We value each of our employees’ opinions equally and encourage sharing new ideas to better our funeral home and service to families. Our philosophy in funeral service follows the guidelines of the Wolfelt Experience approach; each of our directors have been sponsored to attend and certified.

Personally, we promote growth to the individual outside of their professional role. We also understand the balance that needs to exist for the caregiver and strive to foster a relationship within our communities. We utilize a balanced on-call schedule, with four-day weekends off every other week, while one director of our team chooses to take every weekend off.

Where we are:

Our funeral home has a physical presence in five communities throughout southwest Minnesota. We are located in between the larger communities of Marshall, Minnesota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Being near to Sioux Falls offers all of the shopping, dining, entertainment, access to a regional airport, etc, but you can come home to a clean and enjoyable community with great hospitals, schools, community and local government. Our landscape is made up of prairie, agricultural farms, and local businesses. The communities we serve place an emphasis on health facilities, schools, and most importantly, their people.

The role of the funeral director is respected and the conversation of ‘why we do what we do’ in caring for our dead continues to be communicated and understood.

Requirements of the individual we are seeking are:
- Team based approach to workplace.
- Positive attitude and ability to communicate.
- Willingness to grow professionally and personally.
- Desire to make a difference in the lives bereaved families, friends, and communities.
- Passion for improving and spreading knowledge of the value of funeral service.
- Funeral Director’s License in MN or ability to attain (MN requires a four year degree or functional equivalent).

The newly added director will be asked to live in the Pipestone, Minnesota area, where we will begin construction of a new facility in Spring 2023.

Compensation is to be determined on each unique applicant (salary range of $55,000 - $85,000; benefits are additionally added).

Benefits include:
- Wolfelt Experience training and certification
- Family Health Insurance
- Profit Sharing Plan
- Paid Vacation
- Loyalty Bonus Structure
- Cell Phone Allowance
- Several additional job perks
